Daisy's Most Listened to This Week: Dutch Uncles (née Headlines)

Dutch Uncles are an ace little band from Manchester. They played eurocultured this weekend and were very impressive indeed. The lead singer (Duncan?) is also quite an entertainer with pretty awesome dancing skills. 'Face In' is a shit hot track, great sweeping yet downbeat vocals+poppy guitar melody = sing-a-long heaven.

They're supporting Pete+ the Pirates on June 6th (my last day as a student for a while) at Night and Day (manchester) So I will hopefully be popping a long and so should you.

Disco ♥'s Mixtapes

Ok. Stating the obvious yeah. However, this is important. If you're not already a fan, No Love Lost Records rule! You sign up, on FB or MySpaz, and delivered straight to you with out even so much a a google search, you have a brand new mixtape. And this happens several times a week. And sometimes you even get 2. It's like Christmas, but better. Much better.

It's a great way to find out about new DJ's and producers and see (or should that be hear?) what they're all about. As well as that, it'll get you into a whole bunch of new tunes and before you know it you're drowning in all the dirtiest 'lechy-techy-dubby goodness.

This week they released their 56th mixtape, so they're obviously doing alright aren't they?

Past guests have included BRODINSKI, MAT PAYNE, OCELOT and CHEWY CHOCOLATE COOKIES to name just a few.

You'll soon be enjoying tunes the like of...

Primary 1 - Hold Me Down (Foamo Remix)
Mixtapes 054 by ON SNAP!!, 053 by CAP’NHARRY, 047 by FOOD SOUNDSYSTEM, 029 by DESTROY DISCO....

Crookers - Knobbers
Mixtapes 036 by STEREOHEROES, 039 by ZOLTAR (SPEAKS), 017 by TRONIK YOUTH....

Dizzee Rascal - Flex (Dave Spoon Mix)
Mixtape 036 by STEREOHEROES

So what you waiting for? Get on it!

8 Bit Necrophilia

YOU LOVE HER COZ SHES DEAD are a band. From Bath apparently. They make shouty, bleepy noise and are good. It would also be lazy to talk about Crystal Castles in the same sentence, so we won't. Anyway...

They're coming to a town near me soon. Which I like.

Check this live version of Lions In Soho.

They've already won Best Electronica Act at the Indy Awards and made it on to a Kitsune Compilition.

They've even done some quality reworkings of Foals and Dizzee.

Not bad huh?

Stand Up Tall (YLHCSD Remix) - Dizzee Rascal

Do you ever wonder what your life would be like if you didn’t make all those stupid decisions that you did? Has everything you’ve ever done been a mistake? Ever wished you could go back and start over?
I’m not going anywhere with this by the way. Just a thought. One of those days.

Ah nostalgia.

So anyway. Here’s something from back in the day. The sadly missed and fondly remembered Grandaddy. Emotional n that.

And something likely to occupy my eardrums more recently. Also a total chooooon. Check this RMX of Purple Crush. Though you might want to disregard the vid. Bit odd.

OH MY GOD, IS THAT FRIENDLY FIRES? yes, yes it bloody well is

just as i thought today was the worst day of my life - 8hrs in the library is not fun, a little, well a massive ray of hope was thrown my way, when i saw friendly fires sitting on a bench outside uni, knowing that the only words that could come out my mouth were "OH MY GOD I ACUTALLY LOVE YOU!" i decided not enter into a conversation with words, but rather with eyes, best... conversation... ever.

i am a fangirl, i can't help it, but this isn't infatuation, its love. just for ed though, lovely ed and his awesome dancing...ahhh back to revision i guess :(

Daisy's Dream Team directors: team STUSH

I've always been into music video and their directors, always been more interested in them than films. I'm a big fan of vetran directors Michel Gondry (best vid: Fell in love with a girl - The White Stripes) and Spike Jonze (best vid: Y Control - YYY's) but its the 'new' kids on the block team STUSH that have got me really excited.

team STUSH are a collective of super-talented directors based in London, their videos are exciting and different. They've done videos for Good Shoes, Klaxons, To My Boy, The Noisettes, The Young Knives, SMD, Foals to name but a few. The collective includes the incredible Saam Farahmand, Ollie Evans, Chris Cairns, Dan Lowe and Anthony Dickenson. As tempting as it is to fill this post with every single video they've done i'm just gonna pick my favourite favourites.

team STUSH

Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong - Lucio Starts Fires
(Mainly for Joe Lean's skinny skinnies)

Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow

Good Shoes - The Photos on my Wall

Foals - Hummer

Saam Farahmand

Good Shoes - All in my Head

SMD - Hustler

Dan Lowe

To My Boy - I Am X-ray

Oh and before I forget...
Can't be arsed to do another post, but Kinga Burza is also awesome, she did this...

The Teenagers - Homecoming

DiscoWizz superstar DJ's of the week...

...let me take a moment to breathe here as it's not everyday you get blown away by a new tune. But what was mainly a fairly poor day was spectacularly turned around at the last minute by yet another top draw partybangin' crew outta LA, the magnificent LAZRtag.

Mixes to date include some mega mega mega reworkings of Crystal Castle's Crimewave , Britney's Gimme More and last week's tune of the week HEARTSREVOLUTION's - C.Y.O.A..

These are all solid gold I'm telling you that right now.

It doesn't end there either. There's more treats to track down, with mixes of M.I.A., Justice and Aussie popsters Sneaky Soundsystem all keep the quality flowing.

DiscoWizz is visably devastated to find that the LAZRboys were on the same bill last month as gods among men Partyshank. What a night that must've been. Gutted. (Was in LA mind, bit of an ask...)

But never fear. I've saved the best for last. For this, there are no words. Pure decent mate.

Check this.

In a bit yeah... x

and here's the tune. Have it. Love it.

Revision...

...is WHACK
Been staring at the above for about half an hour and still have no idea what it's about, bring on 2nd June!

DiscoWizz got grey skinnies...

...LOL

Geting over Paris

For a quite a good while one song has been guarranteed to get DaisyWizz insane excited and up and dancing within a matter of seconds. The band is Friendly Fires and the song is Paris.

The degree of DJ bullying and level of excitement on hearing the first few bars built over months leading to quite a climatic performance in London at PUSH in February, spinning around in circles and running laps round a club may not seem like the best dancing, but my god it was a quite a sight. Maybe it was the anonotomy of London but such scenes were never witnessed again. Sitting it out on Saturday at Smile appears to be the beginning of the end.

Daisy's Most Listened to This Week

I should probably re-phrase something I said in the first post, while DiscoWizz may bring the lastest in electro/fidget/techno whatever, I'm just gonna talk about what's hot for me at the moment. Also I'm not gonna pretend I can write about music like DiscoWizz...just gonna give a few thoughts like.

This week i've gone a bit fangirl for Lets Bitter Cinema.
Not a new band, but that's not important. Hailing from Sheffied, they started out as a solo effort by Chris Hutchinson but are now a threepiece and a very good one at that. Am really hoping to catch them live soon after missing them Feb when they played London club PUSH and my favourite shop Beyond Retro a few weeks ago.

I'd give 'Oh Vienna' a good listen if you like a good shout, 'Take this act down' Also pretty much does the same.

Oh Vienna - Lets Bitter Cinema.
Take This Act Down - Lets Bitter Cinema.

eurocultured by DiscoWizz

The hotly anticipated street festival hits Manchester again on the spring bank holiday weekend. Kicking off the start of summer. Here at Wizz Towers we can't wait. Last years event was a quality event, the pinnacle surely being Datarock on the main stage under the arches. A cracking stage pressence that really got the crowd up for it. This years line up looks to be skewed toward the evening's events. And with some of Manchester's finest clubnights currating, you'd hope so too!

The day time has an array of bands and street shenanigans with some of the city's hottest DJs dropping the tunes.

When the sun goes down, the fun will really start.

Contort Yourself will be spreading their Midas touch over the Pure triplex, and that's likely to be where you'll find DiscoWizz, no suprises there. With guests of the quality of Autokratz, Yuksek and Shadow Dancers alongside the CY residents, a good time will be guarenteed for fellow disco addicts.

Other initial standouts from the line up include the DFA backed Prinzhorn Dance School, Who will be playing the Bring on the Dancing Horses stage. Not what anyone expected to be on the support at a LCD Soundsystem gig, their crooked lo-fi is sure to be a treat. Another eye opener has got to be the MCR's finest crew Broke n English, ripping up an Italian restaurant on a Sunday evening. Not to be missed. Also gracing the Horses stage are Parisian electonic outfit Poni Hoax and mental Scots DANANANANAYKROYD, which is where you're most likely to see DaisyWizz.

Get your afterhours tickets now. They're a fiver at the moment. So it's cool if you're poor innit?

The only minor downside will be the hangover that will surely follow Tiga and Erol bringing the party to the Warehouse the night before. But that's what bank holiday weekends are made for aren't they?

Party on! x

The line up and all info

Daisy's YouTube Video of the Week: Courtship Dating - Crystal Castles

Some may say it's boring, but it's been a while since a music video has really given me the drive/inspiration to want to direct again. Even if it is boring Alice looks hot.
